It is a fact that Madison Voice is the most up-to-date, up-to-the-hour news in Madison County. Now, The Voice is taking things to the next level.

Though Madison doesn’t share the high-speed Internet capabilities of larger cities, there is enough to generate fair quality live video. There are many factors involved in one’s ability to view live streaming video: connection speed from the transmitter and the receiver being the most important. If you have the 1.5 meg DSL (Century Link’s lowest priced) or better, you should be able to view it. I also have to be in an area that provides enough speed to transmit. I’ve done considerable testing around the county in the past few days.

LIVE FEED PLAYER

When you start the live feed player, you’ll see a glimpse of me or the scene then it will go to an advertisement. The advertisement normally lasts 15-30 seconds. Following the advertisement, it goes back to the live feed and remains there for the duration of the broadcast. If for some reason you lose the feed due to INTERNET conditions beyond ANYONE’S control, just refresh the page and it should resume the feed.

This is a work in progress and is not perfect by any means. I keep the visual quality level low to allow the video feed to run smoothly. Better quality means more bandwidth. If I raise the quality/bandwidth too much, slower computers and slower connections might see it as just a slide show with no audio.

HOW TO KNOW I’M BROADCASTING

Check the website frequently and subscribe to my Twitter and Facebook (Links in the Helpful Links section – top right of page). Right before I go live I will post a notice on all three. There will be times that I can give plenty of advanced notice. You just never know. News isn’t always convenient for the news guy.

The banner to the live feeds will remain on the front page. To check for live broadcasting, click on it. There may be times that I don’t have a chance to give advanced notice.

The jail report is subject to whenever they produce it. They are still working on that.
I just found the Live Broadcasting app for my new phone. It has a much nicer camera and better quality. The best part though is that it will make me completely 100% mobile!
