BRUSH FIRE TURNS TO STRUCTURE FIRE

5-27-12

At approximately 2:05 PM on Saturday, May 26, 2012 Madison 911 Center received a report of a brush fire in the vicinity of 6216 NE Colin Kelly Highway (also known as Highway 145 or the Valdosta Highway). As fire units were being dispatched the call was upgraded to a structure fire and brush fire with one home ablaze and two more in danger. Pinetta Fire Rescue, Cherry Lake Fire/Rescue, Madison Fire/Rescue and the Florida Division of Forestry responded to the scene and extingushed the one stucture fire. More effort was needed to save the other two homes and prevent the quickly moving grass fire from reaching the Methodist Center just south of the homes. No home owners were present as fire units did their initial attack. But two of the residents arrived while firefighters were still trying to control the blaze. Fire units were supported by personnel from the Madison County Emergency Medical Services and the Madison County Sheriff’s Office. The origin of the fire was unknown and the State Fire Marshall’s Office has been called to the scene.

    peasant…oh, I am not in that much despair. More like that much disgust. Bluefin tuna, already scarce, are now contaminated with ten times more nuclear waste than anyone can stand from the Japanese nuclear meltdown. What’s left of the pristine Alaska coast is littered with millions of tons of debris from the tsunami in Japan. Heading towards the west coast. Maybe provide some jobs for the unemployed of California if you could get them off the couch. The food we buy from the grocery is killing us and we are too stupid to realize it. Global weather patterns changing because of our greedhead actions. Our kids are getting killed and maimed in Afghanistan…tell me again, why? When the kids come home the VA deny’s them benefits. The healthy ones can’t get a job. But the politicians can raise a couple billion to get elected. Both of them. I suspect that about 1% of the population ever heard of Aldo Leopold. Maybe not that many. We have certainly forgotten the fact that we live off the land and water, and need some air to breathe. Tradgedy of the commons on a global scale. By the time it crashes you and I will be dead, unless the Mayans were right and then we will all be dead. Pity the ones left. And eddie was right, I went down to the LLC office and they said I had to come up with a birth certificate to get my benefits. I pointed out that I just had to come up with one for my drivers license, which does not seem to stop the illegals…? The hell with them. I guess I just won’t get any money for not doing anything.

    @Frank,

    Dang man, you sound like you are in despair. You are a educated feller. Here read this and get a grip.

    Been out this afternoon killing some squirrels. The rascals have finally figured out that the silver queen s ready and they are driving me crazy. caught a few in a trap over the past few days, but today I brought out the air riffle. Purchased one of those Gamo’s from Richards son, (I know the old man as “Cardo”. ) Anyway I do believe this is one of the most basic of tools for the future, along with some good traps. Got 5 this afternoon. Yum! I like them with dumplings.

    @Frank;;

    Yeah, your right. You form your LLC and then go on down to the LLC office and get your check. Let me know how it works out. (And considering the source, I’d like to see copies of your receipts, please.)

    peasant…always a pleasure to hear from you. Any number of pointers, most of them little more than common sense, but currently am not giving them out. Listened to the news this morning and, evidently, if I file an LLC for urban interface fire protection, (or roofing or pool installation) I don’t acutally have to do anything, but am eligible for 99 weeks of unemployment payments. Probably get free food to boot. Maybe a free phone. Maybe some help with the mortgage. Still pondering this one. If the situation gets truly dire, I will probably do what I can to help.

    Wonder if anyone has any advice on how one might maintain a fire barrier around their structures? Permissible types of plants? Mowing? Fuel buildup? Fire breaks? Frank, got any pointers? Wonder if that new forester has any advice for folks living in rural areas. Aldo lost is life in one of these fires.

    A friend of Cathy and David Studstill, I saw the VOICE post of the fires on my news feed. The pictures were clear and graphic. While they were distressing to see, I thought they also showed the immediate and efficient work of the fire fighters – very commendable.
