6-24-12

On April 25th the New Home Fire Department along with the Florida Forest Service responded to S.W. Candler Street to a Skid Steer Loader with a mower attachment on fire. Mr. Robert Johnson was mowing in some pine trees with heavy vegetation underneath them when his loader started to smoke. He stayed on the loader and drove it out of the woods to a dirt road which made it accessible to the New Home Fire Department for them to extinguish. The Florida Forest Service would like to recognize Mr. Johnson for his quick response to move the loader out of the woods and to the safety of the dirt road. The decision that Mr. Johnson made to stay on the loader and move it out of the woods prevented a woods fire that could have been devastating due to the location and dryness of the woods with extensive mop-up involved. The Perry Fire Prevention Committee presents this Smokey Fire Prevention Plaque to Mr. Robert Johnson for his prevention efforts.
