News Release (July 23, 2012)

Madison County Sheriff Ben Stewart reports that the Sheriff’s Office, participating with 22 other agencies of similar size and personnel across the State of Florida, received an award for coming in 2nd place in the 2011 Florida Law Enforcement Challenge. 1st place was awarded to the Bay Harbor Island Police Department and Miami Shores Police Department was awarded 3rd place.

The Florida Law Enforcement Challenge is a competition based on productivity of the participating agencies and the number of crashes and fatalities that occurred in Madison County during 2011. The Challenge is very competitive and there were only two points separating 1st and 2nd place.

On Friday the 13th day of July 2012 Madison County Sheriff Ben Stewart, Lt. David Harper, Cpl. Jason Whitfield and Finance Officer Nancy Curl attended the awards ceremony for the challenge in Orlando Florida.

The Madison County Sheriff’s Office was awarded 12,000 points to be used for the purchase of law enforcement equipment. The 12,000 points are equivalent to $12,000.00 and the Madison County Sheriff’s Office will utilize these points to equip Officers with new speed measuring devices (radars), flashlights and other safety equipment.

The Sheriff’s Office will participate again in the 2012 Challenge and encourages all Madison County motorists to practice safe driving habits.
