Jacksonville Adoption Event for Caboodle Ranch Cats

28

7-25-12 *From the ASPCA*

Hi John,

Hope you are doing well. I work at the ASPCA, and wanted to let you know that we’ll be hosting a large-scale adoption event in Jacksonville on August 11 & 12 to help find loving homes for the hundreds of cats rescued from Caboodle Ranch in February. It’s been nearly five months since the cats were rescued, and we’re now putting all of our efforts behind helping these cats find homes they so richly deserve.

It would be so great if you could help get the word out to your readers, encouraging them to come out and adopt a new, furry family member. Additional details about the adoption event are listed below. Please let me know if you would like more information, photos, or an interview.

Thanks so much!

Olivia

WHO:

ASPCA & Jacksonville Humane Society

WHAT:

Hundreds of cats rescued from Caboodle Ranch. Some of these cats have special needs, including barn cats and those that are FIV+ or have feline leukemia.

Be “happy” about this. “Concerned,” just in case you missed it.

  2. Concerned says:

So happy these cats were adopted. They deserve loving homes where they will be properly cared for

  3. J. Kinard says:

    Sounds like a dead issue………,….

  4. Really?? says:

Elise you proved my point of thought…………I have absolutely NO affiliation with CR and don’t know any of the party’s involved. But, anyone who has anything negative to say to you is “one of them”. Actually (don’t faint), I don’t even really like cats. Don’t want anything bad to happen to any animal, but they are not my animal of choice.

I’m just over all the drama surrounding the “cats”!! What have you done to save the children, or the elderly or the abused?

Just move on, as they say “you’re beating a dead horse” (you’ve found all the dead cats!)…………….

  5. Elise says:

    To Really???

I have never condemned Madison County or any city official, except Skip Jarvis. The only people who have done that are CR and their avid supporters who beleived the CR seizure was illegal and harrassed the entire county employee staff just to bully people because Craig Grant, Nanette Entriken and Rob Grant got caught for their neglect and told all their supporters to harass the hell out of any person in Madison County that they could think of. They bad mouthed the Sheriff, his department, the Mayor, the Judge, the county attorney, and the County Board of Commission, the clerk of courts, etc..

Since its CR’s tactic to “Don’t do as I do, but do as I say” and always accuse those of the sins you are guilty of yourself, you “Really” must be Rob, Craig or Nanette. But who cares. Because I will not go away as long as you keep telling lies to stir up trouble.

Finally, I can read whatever news paper I want and post comments that are approved by the editor which they are. If John wants me to stop, then I will. But he posts my comments, so I guess I am welcome by him to read the paper whether he likes me or not.

“Really” the reason you don’t want me on this page is because you cannot spread your lies all over Madison and get away with it like you have done for years. Why don’t CR and its avid supporters stop telling lies, harrassing public employees in Madison County and get over it. You lost, so let it go and stop whining about conspiracy theories, and collecting $5 million dollars from the Sheriff’s Department.

  6. Really?? says:

Elise, find another battle…………….you won, let it go!!!!!!!!!!! Find another town to condemn!

  7. Elise says:

    Dale,

It will help your creditability if you tell the entire truth and just not partial truths about the Jacksonville Humane Society and Animal Control and its kitten problem. Here is a story to fill in the blanks you left out.

    http://jacksonville.com/opinion/blog/407800/beth-cravey/2012-08-08/neonatal-nursery-puts-jacksonville-humane-society-running

Also when kittens that have not been weaned are brought into shelters that close for the night, the kittens have to be fed every two – 3 hours or they starve to death. So if the care givers just left the kittens without nutritioin they would die overnight. To correct that problem, the Jacksonville Humane Society created a neo-natal ward that operates 24 hours during the height of kitten and puppy season. The program saved the lives of hundreds of kittens.

  8. Elise says:

    Dale,

Here’s another example of Caboodle Ranch Inc wanting to violate the Judge’s Court Order that they not be in possession of any live animals. And Caboodle Ranch, Inc. “liked” the comment. This is one reason the Judge opined that CR not be allowed to get their animals back and not own animals in the future because they do not “follow the advice of experts” and also the law as this confirms below.

    Marco Fermi
If I had money I would come over to the States to adopt as many cats as I could and take them back to the Ranch…. But Italy is so far away :-(

2 hours agoCaboodle Ranch, Inc likes this..

Marco Fermi Oh, I forgot…. I will allways be at your side!2 hours ago · 1.

And you think a news program will pick this up as being prejudice against the Ranch. If any news program picks it up, it will NOT be favorable to Caboodle Ranch and how CR failed to care for the cats. It will be about how it was done all legally and what a “hell hole” the place was for cats.

  9. Elise says:

    Madison Residents,

I would like to clear up the rumor that CR administrators have been spreading around the County that the County will have to pay $5 million dollars to CR. That is not true at all.

CR is alleging the Sheriff billed them for services from the seizure and for the care of the cats, and that since that is in the “Sheriff’s scope of his duty”, CR cannot be charged for those services performed by the ASPCA by request of the Sheriff. CR is saying that the Sheriff is trying to charge CR for the $1.5 million to care for the animals while the custody issue was being heard is illegal and as a result CR is allowed to “recover from the Sheriff 4 times the amount”. Its all hog wash.

The Sheriff is not a stupid man and would not put the Madison County in that situation. The Sheriff signed a contract with the ASPCA to provide medical care and treatment for the cats and housing while the custody issue took place. Why? Because its not in the Sheriff’departments “job description” to medically take care of cats, house them and care for them. So the Statute that CR’s attorney sites for this “illegal costs” is off point because the Sheriff is not charging for services he “usually performs”. Now if the bill was for the costs incurred by the Sheriff’s department for the three day seizure such as salaries, gas, etc. for the deputies that performed the seizure, then Madison County could be charged 4 times the amount. But the ASPCA bill contains ZERO costs for any services provided by the Sheriff’sdepartment.

Here is a link to the costs being charged by the ASPCA to recover from CR.

    https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0AhEJ5J_n7tIqdHNTNmJfZ1Fwc2RuazR2RHJpVGVqSmc#gid=0

You will notice there are NO charges for the Sherif’s department.

And the contract the Sheriff signed with the ASPCA further states that the ASPCA will collect as much as it can from CR and any money they are unable to collect, they will NOT go after Madison County for the unpaid bill. Thus Madison County will not incur ANY debt as a result of the seizure of the cats. This contract was signed prior to the seizure at CR and was testified to at the custody hearing for the cats.

Also the Florida Statute allows for the ASPCA to collect those monies after the custody hearing. There is nothing illegal about it. Its standard operating procedure in Florida and many case law supports it. Mr. Collins, the attorney for CR, has gotten it all wrong, and when or if he decides to set a hearing on the motion for the “illegal costs”, the Judge will deny his motion for the “illegally exacted costs” because it does not apply in this case. Why? Because Sheriff departments job description are not to provide vet services and care for animals. How can they? They are not trained vets, they are trained law enforcement officers.

Thus the reason CR’s motion to get money from the Sheriff’s department is a joke. Its just a way for CR to continue to keep the hopes alive of their dwindling support. Its CR who keeps filing frivilous motions after motions that they keep losing or getting denied that is taking money away from Madison County.

This is a copy of the motion for the “illegal costs”. I am sure after you read it, you will understand Madison County is no way on the “hook” for $5 million dollars.

  10. Frank Rathburn says:

This was a rumor so take it for what it is worth. 60 Minutes was not interested in Madison, they were…are? … interested in the ASPCA which has evidently received bad reports from a number of sources about a number of animal issues. Everything is big dollar, and they collect millions from people that think they are helping animals. Perhaps they are not. Next thing I expect to hear is that the ASPCA is fiananced by George Soros. Be easy to believe.

  11. eddie says:

    @KittyFriends:

Geraldo Rivera….Possibly. Shep Smith…Maybe, but I doubt that even he would stoop so low. 60 Minutes? Not in a million years.

  12. Kitty Friend says:

Frank, I hope what you say happens. I hope this all ends up on 60 minutes and they interview and show the faces of everyone that was involved in this political stunt.

  13. Frank Rathburn says:

eddie, your repsonse just goes to show that non partisanship is possible, that you can reach across the aisle! But this show is not over and Madison may well rue the day it got involved. Wait till we are on 60 Minutes – and I understand that it a possibility also.

  14. eddie says:

    @Frank:

I’m with you on this one. It’s as if mob mentality has run amok.

  15. Frank Rathburn says:

The only thing I have not heard recently about this lunacy is that Madison County may well be sued for something like 5 million dollars. Won’t that be special. These cats from CR, while perhaps not living in perfect conditions, were none the less in a spot they were familiar with under the care of someone that, for whatever reason, cared for them. I doubt the guy had unlimited money and he seemingly did the best he could. Anyone else want 600 cats? Go check out a few nursing homes and come back and tell me that everything is perfect. These cats probably cost about $4,000 a piece. And the ASPCA has made enemies out of thousands of people. I used to send them $20 once in a while. Frankly, I would like my money back. Certainly I would never send another cent.

  16. The Voice says:

All but two cats were adopted.

  17. Elise says:

    Dale,

I almost forgot. Two people liked the idea of “adopting” cats and returning them to Caboodle Ranch. They are two of your most avid supporters, Perry J. Taylor and Linda Prybella Neider.

    http://www.facebook.com/pages/Caboodle-Ranch-Inc/143028025710287?ref=sgm

And then you wonder why there is a supposed “list” to stop people from violating a court order that the Honorable Judge Parker decreed that Caboolde Ranch not be in possession of any live animals?

All you have to do is look in the mirror and see the person partially responsible.

  18. Elise says:

    Dale,

If you want to complain about people breaking court orders, just look on CR’s FB pages. Its full of people wanting to “adopt” cats and return them to CR in VIOLATION of a Court Order. And you were the head honcho in charge of arranging it. We saved all your comments about your plan to get fans to “adopt” cats and return them to Caboodle Ranch.

This was just posted before your latest post on CR, Inc. Facebook page and you did and said NOTHING.

    Pearl A Yanick
…Ugh, im so sorry i just read this, hopefully anyone else out there, that can maybe adopt the rest and give to caboodle? :(

Why did you not respond to this person and tell her that it would be a violation of a court order to adopt cats and return them to CR? Then you wonder why there is a “suppossed” list being checked. Its because Dale and Company want to break the law and you are NOT stoppping it. You have no one to blame but yourselves if CR supporters are turned away at the door.

Dale for someone to claim to have worked in the legal profession your standards of ethics are very low, if you have any at all.

Also answer me this? How is it that you are able to e-mail the Judge even though he went through the trouble to enter an Order informing ALL people associated with CR NOT to contact him or will be held in contempt of court? Do you really thing anyone with any logic will believe that lie? And there is NO way he e-mailed you back. If I am wrong, please post the e-mail to prove it. Judge Parker is an honest Judge and would not participate in ex-parte communication which is not allowed, which as a previous legal secretary you should know that.

I hope you did e-mail the judge and he holds you in contempt but I am sure its just another CR fabrication to keep your supporters on the hook.

Dale, you cannot pick and choose which Orders you want to comply with. You have to comply with ALL of them even if you don’t agree with them.

You need to accept its over and none of the cats are going back to CR or Craig Grant. The cats are finding good homes and to be mad about that is really pathetic of you and anyone else who thinks the adoptions are wrong. How can you say its wrong to place cats in homes where they get love, attention and shelter?

Also Dale you did not give up your cats because of your husband’s death and new living arrangements, it was because you had two cats and one of them was peaing on your furniture. So instead of trying to figure out which one, and not wanting to follow the advice of your vet, you gave them permanently to Caboodle Ranch because “you could not keep buying new furniture”.

So don’t complain about not getting your cats back because you never wanted them back in the first place because your brand new furniture is more important to you.

Also you did not contact the ASPCA to claim your cats until CR lost custody of the cats. If CR had won custody, your cats would be at CR right now, and not in your “new home”. You never intended to get them back.

  19. L.N. says:

It is indeed illegal for the ASPCA to do this, Jocko. And I believe by now the ASPCA knows that it is.

  20. Jocko says:

I understand that the ASPCA has compiled a list of 18,000 people who showed support for Caboodle Ranch who are now on a do not adopt list.
That the ASPCa is monitoring FB and web pages, blogs, etc to blacklist Caboodle supporters-

What say ye ASPCA- bit of a bully no?? And I would think if not illegal- At least sleety and unethical.

Then further to a link to a FB page where it is explained.

  21. Dale Swisher says:

Here’s how honorable and fair the ASPCA really is. They say the cats will go to good homes. The shelters listed may be no-kill, but when they are full, animals will go to other shelters that have high kill rates. For example, the partner of the Jacksonville Humane Society, the Animal Control & Protective Services of Jacksonville, last year killed 1,124 kittens because they were too young to live without a lot of care. The Tampa Bay SPCA has almost a 50% kill rate. These facts are in their publications. Old, unadoptable cats will be eventually killed, when the furor is over.
I am a strong supporter of Caboodle. I had two cats I brought to Caboodle while I worked out new living arrangements after my husband died. I visited the cats, spent many days at the ranch, and saw they were in a terrific place. When the ASPCA told the public they could take their own cats home if they could identify them, I called and gave my chip #s to the ASPCA. Julia called back a few weeks later and said my cats’ chips didn’t match any on their list and my cats weren’t there. I said I thought that was odd because Craig Grant videoed one of my cats when he was at the shelter last month. Long silence. Then Julia said she had a message for me. Because of my involvement with the ranch, I would not be permitted to take my cats. That was a repugnant statement & I asked her to repeat it, which she did. She said I could discuss it with Tim Rickey, the field investigator for the ASPCA. I am discussing it with the ASPCA headquarters in NYC and my lawyer.

  22. Frank Rathburn says:

Dear Silence…thanks for the information. And so all of these cats are going to good homes. Not that I really care, but the whole thing is so screwy – any estimate of how many years it will take take to get rid of 500 cats? And if there are cats with horrible medical conditions that heart surgeons or orthopedic guys couldn’t fix, haven’t they had these ailments all along? Did they micro chip them knowing they were going to get waxed? And now you are telling me that there is a “feral colony” to put wild cats in? Isn’t that kind of the same thing as Caboodle? I was always taught to shoot feral cats, I will quit now that I know I can send them to a feral cat colony. I don’t suppose they pay you to bring them there, do they? If they do I will get on it right away, as there are plenty of feral cats. Now the gumment and ASPCA say they want all assetts from Caboodle to pay for some of this nonsense? They should have just left this poor guy the hell alone to fool with a bunch of cats that for some reason he cared about.

  23. Silence Dogood says:

    Frank,

The ASPCA is going to place all the cats in homes and feral (wild cats) will be placed in feral colonies, probably in Jacksonville, where I understand they are protected by city law.

The only cats that will be put to sleep (pts) are those with medical conditions that are causing pain and suffering and its the humane thing to do.

Judge Parker ruled that any cat pts has to have a vet recomendation. Luckily, the ASPCA internal rules require that two vets make that call.

So all will be safe and found new forever homes.

Also, I do agree you need an ID in order to vote. Does sound crazy doesn’t it.

  24. Cecil says:

What a waste of money and time. I know people living in Madison County with out water and lights in their homes and people are worry about a cat.

  25. dirty fighting says:

Strange that you have to prove your identity to adopt a cat but not to vote in a national election.Strange days indeed!

  26. Frank Rathburn says:

So glad to hear that hundreds of cats have been saved and properly dealt with by the court system for just a few dollars, have benefited from great medical care, professional mental health counseling and will now all find loving homes. What happens to the ones that don’t get lucky? Been my experience that there are plenty of cats and they are hard to give away. Maybe I am wrong again. Not the first time.
