CHAMBER OF COMMERCE LAUNCHES BANNER SPONSORSHIP FOR “CELEBRATING 175 YEARS ~ 1838-2013 ~ MADISON, FLORIDA”
The City of Madison, along with many of its community partners, is gearing up for the city’s 175th anniversary in 2013. The theme of the year-long celebration will be “Celebrating 175 years, 1838-2013, Madison, Florida, City of Four Freedoms.” The kick-off event is set for Sunday, January 6 at 3:30 pm at the west side of the courthouse which will include speakers, skits, singing, and unveiling of the first anniversary banner.
A banner sponsorship program has been made available through the Greater Madison County Chamber of Commerce. Any business or individual can choose to sponsor an anniversary banner that will be displayed on lamp posts and other utility poles on the city’s main thoroughfare and in various spots around the county during the entire year. The sponsorship fee of each banner is $100 and each one can be personalized to honor or remember a loved one. The banners are royal blue and gold, double-sided, and measure 23” x 48” high. At the end of the year, each banner will be formally retired and presented to businesses and families.
Many events are already in the planning stage including historical vignettes and reenactments by the RATT pact, Madison’s downtown theatrical group; a reenactment of President Franklin D. Roosevelt’s Four Freedoms Speech which was delivered in 1941 to the 77th Congress; concerts in the park, walking tours, a cemetery tour, tours of historical homes, night on the town, museum exhibits, events to focus on veterans, spotlight on local industry, and literary and art contests. All local organizations are invited to schedule their own activities and events to help commemorate the anniversary.
