Congressman Ted Yoho issues statement on vote against debt ceiling increase
Office of Congressman Ted S. Yoho DVM
3rd District of Florida
WASHINGTON—Congressman Ted Yoho (FL-03) voted no on H.R. 325 today. After the vote, Congressman Yoho released the following statement:
“I gave my constituents in Florida my word that I would bring accountability to government. I stood by my word by voting against H.R. 325, which ultimately raises the debt ceiling. For that reason alone, I could not support it.”
“The concept of ‘No Budget, No Pay,’ is a step in the right direction of holding Congress accountable and placing pressure on all of us to perform our duties. We face tough challenges and must make major decisions soon. The policies of both parties from the last decade have increased the national debt to an unsustainable level. My goal is to work with my constituents and colleagues alike to take on these challenges.”

@George,
Remember this, http://www.c-spanvideo.org/clip/40233, and this,
http://www.c-spanvideo.org/clip/40233,
Pay careful attention the the dates of these clips. Seems we were awash in money at the time of these hearings, but what did you and yours do? Major tax cuts for the rich, put a major health care program off budget, start two wars off budget.
Now you blame the black man for all your problems. If you read obama’s quote in 1996 he was just saying what he was told to believe, ie, that you and yours believe the county was awash in money and we needed to return it to the rich and wealthy who would pass it on down to us poor folks.
We are now learning how that has all turned out. Seems like you fooled the president once. Seems he caught on and things are about to change.
“My psychiatrist told me I was crazy and I said I want a second opinion. He said okay, you’re ugly too.”
Uh OH!
The Quote of this Decade:
“The fact that we are here today to debate raising America ‘s debt limit
is a sign of leadership failure. It is a sign that the US Government cannot pay its own bills.
It is a sign that we now depend on ongoing financial assistance from foreign countries to finance our
Government’s reckless fiscal policies. Increasing America ‘s debt weakens us domestically
and internationally. Leadership means that, “the buck stops here.’ Instead, Washington is shifting
the burden of bad choices today onto the backs of our children and grandchildren. America has a debt problem and a failure of leadership. Americans deserve better.”
~ Senator Barack H. Obama, March 2006
I guess it all depends on who is saying this stuff. If it’s a Democrat, it’s OK If it’s a Republican, it’s not.
“Rust Never Sleeps.” Good comments. Valid arguments.
@ congressman Yoho,
Let’s see. Lets look at your quote carefully.
“I gave my constituents in Florida my word that I would bring accountability to government. I stood by my word by voting against H.R. 325, which ultimately raises the debt ceiling. For that reason alone, I could not support it.”
Do you take we voters for fools? Accountability for government, would surely mean paying bills that you have already accrued. This vote had little to do with the debt ceiling. That is why your leadership brought it up for a vote, and all but the least informed, such as your self voted for it.
The president explained to the nation that he would not put up with congress lying about what was going on and therefore would not let the debt limit issue become an issue. And guess what. The leadership of the Republican party realized that it could no longer lie about fiscal responsibility and brought it up for a vote and it passed it by a large majority. When you get caught with your hand in the cookie jar it is hard to deny the fact.
The vote had to do with paying bills on goods and services already received or contracted to receive in the near future. Your approach would be similar to going into a restaurant, ordering, and consuming a meal, then standing up and saying I am not paying cause I got no money, cause my wife won’t give me any more money!
Is this accountability? Heck no! You see this was an easy vote for you cause you know how ignorant we Cretins are in this district. Do you really believe based on your vote that many of us would not see that your are playing to our ignorance. Government, pay your bills. Congressmen, do not take us for fools. We do need to pay more attention to how our tax dollars are being spent, but when congress agrees to spend it and then refuses to pay its bill, Shame! Accountability is paying your bills.
Congressman, please do not treat us like fools.
@Randy,
Please pay attention. The congressman is showing himself to be a fraud. We do not need to encourage him.
Thank you Congressman. Most people don’t realize that you also had to go against the Republican “leadership”, which has its own implications. My favorite slogan from the 60′s was “if the people will lead, the leaders will follow”. I believe you’re on the right path.
