“Buckets Of Hope” for Haiti

3

3-15-10  From Gene Stokes

Churches of the Middle Florida Baptist Association have been collecting “Buckets Of Hope” for the displaced people of Haiti following the devasting February earthquake.

This morning we loaded 179 buckets for transport to their next collection site in preparation for final shipment to Haiti. Each bucket contains enough food for a family of four for at least 3 weeks.  The cost of the food items was approximately $30.00 per bucket or a total value for food product of $5,370.00. Shipment was $10.00 each for a total of $1,790.00, or a total effort of $7,160.00.

A great big thank-you for the generosity of the people through this area.  It is a great blessing to work with people who respond with such heartfelt ways.

Middle Florida Baptist Association is made up of 22 Southern Baptist Convention Churches in Madison County, 6 SBC Churches in Laffayette County, and 4 SBC Churches in Jefferson County.

  1. I agree with jar. Its time to look at home for a while. We have folks in Madison county and state that is out of work and some has lost their homes to fires. Where is the help for these folks. A while back it was in the paper about a fund raising event for a local lady that has cancer. I wonder how much relief did she receive. People whats to help foreign countries that will never repay or help us, but won’t help their own. sad sad sad.

Middle Florida Baptist Association has a history of helping when people need help. In the Spring 2009 MFBA volunteers helped in the aftermath of local flooding. Prior to that MFBA volunteers went to New Orleans following Katrina.

How about helping local people or americans citizens that are displaced. Every time there is natural disaster or conflict somewhere in the world, America is the first to rush in and help. I think its time to start looking after our own and building this country back strong.
